246B00 : Charge-air pressure sensor, signal: plausibility with ambient-pressure sensor at idle

 

Fault description

Plausibility check of charging pressure with ambient pressure. The fault is detected if the difference between the charging pressure and the ambient pressure exceeds a limit value.

 

Limit value: 300 mbar

 

Condition for fault identification

Monitoring takes place when the following preconditions are met:

 

- No electrical fault is stored for the ambient pressure sensor and charging pressure sensor.

 

- The engine speed is below the following value: 750 rpm.

 

Control unit voltage: 9.5 V to 16 V.

 

 

 

Condition for fault memory entry

The fault is entered if it is present for longer than the following period (debounce time): 10000 ms

 

Action in service

1. Check the plausibility of the measured values of both sensors.

 

2. Check line and plug connections

 

3. Check the voltage supply of the sensors (contact resistances falsify the measured value).

 

4. Continue troubleshooting at the sensor with the implausible measured values.

Service instruction

Check the plug connections, lines and voltage supply of the charging pressure sensor. Contact resistors can falsify the charging pressure value.

250A00 : Rail-pressure sensor, signal : short circuit to ground

 

Fault description

Rail pressure monitoring. The fault is set if the non-linearised value of the rail pressure sensor (voltage) is less than the limit value.

 

Limit value: 131 mV

 

Condition for fault identification

Monitoring takes place every 10 ms if no fault relating to the supply voltage of the rail pressure sensor is logged.

 

Control unit voltage: 9.5 V to 16 V.

 

 

 

Condition for fault memory entry

The fault is entered if it is present for longer than the following period (debounce time): 140 ms

 

Action in service 1.

Check line and plug connections

 

- Check connections for corrosion!

 

- Check connectors for correct locking!

 

2. Carry out function check.

 

If checks mentioned above are OK: Replace rail pressure sensor.

 

Fault effect and breakdown warning

The fault blocks regeneration of the diesel particulate filter.

 

Visit your nearest BMW Service Centre.

If the rail pressure sensor was renewed, the following service function must be performed: Delete adaptations, fuel system.
