Spy photographers have captured the first images of an all new BMW X3 prototype while out testing in Munich. The next-generation X3 is believed to be based on the 3-series' platform, although the X3 is expected to have a longer wheel-base and wider track than its car brethren.

 

The newest X3 also appears to take several design cues from the BMW X6, especially from the B pillar back. Despite the X6's coupe-like inspired lines, the X3 should offer plenty of rear-seat head room and cargo space.

 

Details on the X3 remain a mystery, but drivetrain options will likely mirror those offered in the 3-series.
